Synopsis
An apparently cultivated stranger overhears a young couple declare that good must always prevail over evil. Taking their confidence as a challenge, he begins manipulating their relationships under the guise of a helpful doctor. The couple's assumptions are tested by temptations designed to make them undermine their own happiness.
George Arliss made his film debut in a role drawn from Ferenc Molnár's play, which had already brought him success on Broadway. The screen version gives the social manipulator an explicitly supernatural identity.
