Synopsis

When a young couple disappears near a Texas town, their friends join the sheriff's search. Wrecked vehicles and damaged infrastructure gradually suggest something larger than an ordinary accident. A resourceful mechanic and hot-rod enthusiast must help protect the community when an enormous lizard approaches the places where its teenagers gather.

Behind the scenes

Ray Kellogg and the producing team made the film in Texas as a companion to The Killer Shrews. Miniature scenery allowed a real Mexican beaded lizard to appear enormous, despite the species named in the title. The production mixes its monster story with the cars and music of contemporary teenage entertainment.
