Synopsis

A diving bell breaks free during an expedition into deep water, cutting four explorers off from the surface. Leaving the vessel brings them to an underground cavern instead of safety. A long-stranded inhabitant offers a bleak account of their prospects as the team above prepares a rescue and the caverns become increasingly unstable.

Behind the scenes

The cavern scenes were filmed in Arizona's Colossal Cave. Jerry Warren completed the production before its 1959 release, when it played with Teenage Zombies in some markets. Although advertising suggested monsters underground, the finished film concentrates on trapped explorers and their unsettling human companion.
