Synopsis

A factory worker dreams of serious acting but keeps finding that audiences respond to her energy and comic instincts. Work with a touring company eventually leads her toward the chaotic world of silent-film serials. Betty Hutton plays Pearl White in a freely fictionalized career story that mixes theatrical ambition, romance and physical adventure.

Cast

Inspirations

The title recalls Pearl White's 1914 serial, but the film offers a heavily fictionalised account of the actress's rise. Its musical comedy and satire of early filmmaking should not be confused with a remake of the serial or a dependable biography of White.
