Synopsis

A young singer's opportunities at the Paris Opera seem to depend on an unseen patron. His demands intrude on both the theatre's management and her romantic life. The promise of artistic success draws her toward a hidden world beneath the stage.

Cast

Inspirations

Gaston Leroux's novel supplied the Phantom. Lon Chaney devised the make-up that became central to the film's reputation; different release and reissue versions account for variations in surviving prints.
