Synopsis

A visiting sailor becomes involved with a woman from a Pacific island community. Their attraction grows across differences neither fully controls. An imagined tropical paradise becomes the setting for a romance threatened by the demands of the surrounding world.

Richard Walton Tully's play became a film shot in Hawaii. Its imagined island culture reflects Hollywood's exoticising conventions; the story is not an ethnographic account of the communities where it was filmed.
