Synopsis
Juan Gallardo rises from poverty to become a celebrated bullfighter and marries his childhood sweetheart. Fame brings him into the orbit of a wealthy woman whose attention unsettles the marriage and his concentration in the arena. As desire and guilt undermine his confidence, the public success that seemed to secure his future becomes inseparable from physical danger.
Cast
Behind the scenes
June Mathis adapted Blasco Ibáñez's novel for Valentino. Editor Dorothy Arzner combined existing footage of Spanish bullfights with closer views of the star, joining spectacle and performance without requiring every image to come from the same setting.
