Boyarin Orsha

Synopsis

Back at his estate after serving Ivan the Terrible, a boyar discovers that his daughter has been meeting Arseny, his adopted son. His anger transforms a private romance into a conflict over paternal authority and the young couple's freedom. Pyotr Chardynin both directs the short drama and plays the furious father.

Inspirations

The story draws on Mikhail Lermontov's poem Boyarin Orsha. It belongs to the early Russian cinema's practice of turning familiar literary works into brief screen dramas.
