Synopsis
Germann watches other men gamble but fears risking his own money until he hears that an elderly countess knows a winning secret. His courtship of Liza gives him access to the countess's home. The desire to obtain the cards' mystery begins to overpower affection and judgment, drawing him toward a confrontation whose consequences follow him back to the gaming table.
