Synopsis

Two university friends are interested in the same young woman. A skiing excursion gives them opportunities to impress her, but also exposes them to awkward accidents and rivalry. Ozu builds a light comedy around competing approaches to courtship, friendship under pressure and the indignities of trying to look confident on unfamiliar ground.

Historical context

This is the earliest Ozu film known to survive. Its student setting and physical comedy offer a view of his early work before the family dramas with which he later became especially associated.
