Synopsis
An Irish boy in San Francisco sells newspapers to support his widowed, increasingly ill mother. Street friendships give him knowledge of the city that adults tend to overlook. When a judge's daughter is kidnapped, his familiarity with the neighbourhood becomes a way to help the police and change the prospects of his own family.

Marshall Neilan developed the film around young Wesley Barry after an earlier newsboy role. The group of children anticipates later screen street gangs, while the Chinatown kidnapping story also carries the racial stereotypes common to contemporary crime melodramas.
