Synopsis
A spirited girl grows up in a mining town with a father whose fortune has disappeared. A persistent schoolteacher persuades her to try the classroom, opening a new possibility in her unsettled life. Meanwhile, news of money elsewhere in the family attracts people willing to exploit the connections she scarcely understands.
