Synopsis
A small-town young man develops his baseball talent and heads toward the major leagues, even fashioning his own bat from a tree. Babe Ruth plays this idealized version of himself as the story leads to his New York Yankees career.

Historical context
The film invents a reassuring rural upbringing rather than recounting Ruth's actual childhood in Baltimore. Its final baseball scenes include the Polo Grounds, the Yankees' home at the time.
