Synopsis
A fisherman accepts responsibility for a killing to protect a relative, expecting good behaviour to bring an early release. Inside prison, conflict with another inmate repeatedly undermines that hope. Even freedom offers little security when his record closes ordinary employment to him and former prisoners draw him toward another dangerous arrangement.

Barton MacLane and Glenda Farrell reunited after their popular appearances in Warner Bros.' Torchy Blane films. Universal planned further pictures with the pair, but this Arthur Lubin drama remained their only joint production under that arrangement.
