Synopsis

A wealthy woman and her fiancé each imagine that romance outside their social class will free them from an unsatisfying life. She marries her chauffeur, while he marries a laundress. The two new households discover that attraction does not remove the pressures of money, domestic work or the expectations of family and friends.
