Smilin' Through

Synopsis

John has never recovered from the death of his bride on their wedding day. Years later, the niece he has raised falls in love with the son of the man responsible. His refusal to accept the relationship passes an old wound to a new generation, while the First World War brings fresh separation and uncertainty to the young couple.

Cast

Inspirations

The film adapts the play by Jane Cowl and Jane Murfin, originally written under a shared pseudonym. Norma Talmadge's dual role connects the lost bride with the younger woman whose future is endangered by the memory of that tragedy.
