Historical context

Vsevolod Pudovkin made this film after Mother and The End of St. Petersburg, completing a group commonly described as his revolutionary trilogy. Its alternative title, The Heir to Genghis Khan, points to the political use of lineage at the heart of its fictional anti-imperialist story.
