Synopsis
Emma rises from a modest background into the aristocratic world of Sir William Hamilton. Her later attachment to naval commander Horatio Nelson draws private desire into the affairs of states and war. Their relationship faces public disapproval and existing marriages, while the film presents its heroine as an influential companion in the admiral's life.
Cast
Inspirations
The historical romance dramatizes the relationship of Emma Hamilton and Horatio Nelson. It presents a romantic interpretation of their lives rather than a documentary record.
Behind the scenes
The film uses intertitles for dialogue alongside a synchronized Vitaphone accompaniment with music and songs. AFI records its American release in March 1929, resolving the conflicting 1928 date found in some catalogues.
