Synopsis
A baker's niece leaves Vienna convinced that a correspondence course has prepared her for operatic success. The advertised job she finds in Budapest is actually part of a nightclub operation serving wealthy clients. Her refusal to accept its expectations leads her toward new allies and another setting where appearances and social position are equally deceptive.
Lewis Milestone adapts Avery Hopwood's stage comedy with Corinne Griffith as the hopeful singer. The contrast between innocent professional ambition and the business concealed behind an entertainment advertisement supplies its opening reversal.
