The Little House in Kolomna

Synopsis

Asked by her widowed mother to find an inexpensive cook, Parasha brings home the officer she loves, disguised as a woman. The household gains a servant whose real purpose is to remain near the daughter. Keeping up the performance turns ordinary domestic routines into opportunities for discovery, especially when the supposed cook needs to shave.

Inspirations

Chardynin adapts Pushkin's comic poem, with Ivan Mozzhukhin playing the officer in disguise. The small domestic setting allows the humor to depend on gestures and the mother's confidence in what she thinks she sees.
