Synopsis
Violence against her family gives a Russian village schoolteacher a lasting resentment of imperial power. Escaping an unwanted marriage, she encounters a grand duke without knowing his rank. Their attraction develops as court intrigue and revolution transform the positions from which each must judge the other.
Raoul Walsh's historical romance stars Dolores del Río and Charles Farrell. Released with a Movietone score and effects but no spoken dialogue, it presents the Russian Revolution through Hollywood melodrama and an invented relationship across social classes.
