Synopsis

Billy retaliates against the men responsible for his employer's death and becomes a fugitive. His friend Pat Garrett must pursue him as sheriff, placing personal loyalty against official duty. Capture and escape lead to a final decision about whether the lawman will deliver him to justice.

Behind the scenes

King Vidor filmed the Western in both the early Realife widescreen process and a conventional format. The surviving standard-width version was photographed alongside the wide version, whose prints are not known to survive.
