Synopsis
Ordered to arrest Carmen after a fight at the tobacco factory, Don José allows himself to be persuaded into helping her escape. Punishment for that decision fails to end his attachment. Her ties to smugglers and her refusal to accept the limits he places on love draw the soldier away from duty and toward an increasingly destructive relationship.

Inspirations
Feyder's version of Mérimée's story stars the Spanish singer Raquel Meller. The production retains Carmen's connection to the smuggler Garcia, giving the central romance a place within a broader criminal world.
