Glumov's Diary

Synopsis

Glumov's secret diary becomes the center of a rapid series of appearances, escapes and comic transformations. A theft sends a performer from a building to an airplane and back toward the theater. The diary's contents then emerge through visual tricks that turn social maneuvering into physical spectacle.

Cast

Behind the scenes

Eisenstein created this first film as inserts for his 1923 Proletkult staging of an Ostrovsky comedy. Performers moved between the live stage and the filmed action, making the work an experiment in combining theatrical performance with cinema.
