L'Atlantide

Synopsis

Two French officers lose their way in the Sahara and discover a hidden kingdom ruled by Antinéa. Her beautiful court offers little freedom to the men she chooses as lovers. When one officer resists her, she turns the other's jealousy into a weapon, leaving him with a memory that continues to draw him back toward the desert.

Inspirations

Feyder adapts Pierre Benoit's novel as a story told largely through recollection. Extensive location filming in Algeria gives the desert a physical presence alongside the fantasy of Antinéa's concealed kingdom.
