Synopsis
John Sims arrives in New York certain that he will distinguish himself from everyone around him. An office job, marriage and children give him a life filled with ordinary responsibilities, but little of the recognition he expected. As setbacks place his family under strain, his belief in exceptional success becomes increasingly difficult to reconcile with daily survival.
Cast
Behind the scenes
Vidor combines scenes filmed in New York with expressive studio work and models. The vast office floor and the movement between a single household and the surrounding city make scale an important part of the drama.
